<p data-start="1039" data-end="1286">These empanadas are more South American in style than Mexican. The dough is a traditional baked butter dough, and the filling includes classic ingredients like hard-boiled eggs and olives &mdash; elements commonly found in Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay.</p>
<p data-start="1288" data-end="1537">I grew up making <a href="https://www.mylatinatable.com/the-best-mexican-style-baked-beef-empanadas/" data-wpel-link="internal">Mexican empanadas</a>, which are often more boldly seasoned, sometimes <a href="https://www.mylatinatable.com/authentic-mexican-fried-empanadas-recipe/" data-wpel-link="internal">fried</a>, with flavors that instantly take me back to my childhood. And while these are different, I truly love them. They carry the same homemade warmth and sense of tradition.</p>
<p data-start="1539" data-end="1862">For me, making empanadas is always something meaningful. The style may change and the ingredients may vary, but the purpose stays the same: bringing people together around food made by hand. These connect me to South America, while still reminding me of the delicious Mexican empanadas I&rsquo;ve been making since I was a child.</p>

I am not exaggerating when I say that I think he ate 6 or 7 of them in one sitting! They really are that good.</span></p>

<p style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">The main components of a tostada are those that I listed above &ndash; beans, ground beef (or another type of meat), vegetables (lettuce and tomato), and tortillas. </span></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">It is easy to go to the store and get ready to eat tostada shells. That said, I prefer to fry my own. They taste better that way and are so much more authentic. Another healthier option is to bake the tostada shells. I do this sometimes and they are still great!&nbsp;</span></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">For the beans, it is important that you can spread them, so refried beans (black or pinto) are the best. </span></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Back in Mexico, we used to cook and mash our own beans, but that can take a long time! Having three little boys, time is something that I don&rsquo;t have very often. That is why I usually use pre-made, refried beans. No matter what you use, you will definitely want to include beans for this to be an authentic Mexican tostada. </span></p>

<p>A while back we traveled to Texas &ndash; sometimes known as the BBQ capital of the world. We were visiting some friends and had the chance to visit a few good restaurants, and we fell in love with the brisket at one of the BBQ places that was called &ldquo;<a href="https://www.coopersbbqnewbraunfels.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow" data-wpel-link="external">Cooper&rsquo;s</a>.&rdquo; This restaurant has won many awards for its food, and believe me, they are well deserved! Just thinking about the food that we ate there just makes my mouth water!!!</p>

<p>Unfortunately, we are pretty far from Texas, and we can&rsquo;t go as often as we would like to go just for the BBQ. So, I set out to make my own good brisket recipe and after a little bit of experimenting, I came up with this recipe and it is de-lic-ious! This may not be the same as what you can get in Texas, but I bet that you won&rsquo;t be able to stop eating it!</p>

<p>My husband was excited when I told him what I was making, because he loves a good brisket, and he was really impressed after giving this a try. He worked in Texas for a couple of summers, so he had a chance to try many different versions of brisket, and he said that this definitely is comparable. The great thing is that you can make it using your <a href="https://amzn.to/1SEjCGr" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow" data-wpel-link="external">slow cooker</a>, so you don&rsquo;t have a lot of steps to follow.
