Being the only woman in a house full of boys, I can tell you that it is not always easy to get these guys to eat their veggies! My two little boys (6 and 3) love fruit and could eat it all day long, but when it comes to vegetables, it’s a completely different story – they just don’t want to touch them. As a result, I have had to come up with some creative ways to get my boys (and my husband) to eat more.
One of my favorite ways to do that is to combine the vegetables with other foods and flavors that they love so that it is easier for them to eat. Fortunately for me, all of the boys in my house like soup – so for me it is easy to come up with soups that have lots of vegetables, and sometimes you can’t even tell that they are there!

To keep the vegetable theme going, I decided to see if I could get them to eat even more veggies by making these delicious Bacon and Garlic Asparagus. I personally love asparagus, but I feel like it has to be cooked in a certain way for most people to try it.
Since we were already having a lot of other vegetables with this meal, I decided that a little bit of bacon could go a long way to get my boys to try asparagus too! These are so easy to make, and I was right – my whole family loved them and said that we should have them more often.

Bacon and Garlic Asparagus – A Perfect Side Dish
- 1 Bunch of Asparagus
- 3 Cloves of Garlic minced
- 3-5 Strips of Bacon
- 1/4 Cup of Parmesan Cheese
- 1 Tsp. of Cumin
- Salt and Pepper to Taste
- Cut the bacon into smaller pieces
- Add the Asparagus, the minced garlic, and the Bacon into a pan over medium high heat.
- As the bacon begins to cook, move the asparagus and the garlic around so that it cooks together with the bacon.
- Once everything is cooked through, add the Cumin and then add salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve as a side dish or appetizer and enjoy!
