<p>Beans, especially black beans, are an extremely important part of Mexican cuisine. They are just as important as tortillas, corn, and peppers and can be found as a side dish for almost any Mexican food you can think of. They are made with very simple ingredients and are so easy to make. I know it can be tempting to use canned refried beans, but trust me, homemade beans are so much better and you can make them using this easy recipe.</p>
<p>This particular recipe has so much flavor, because it adds a little bit of chorizo, but you can use the basic recipe included without chorizo as well. They go perfectly with tortilla chips and are a delicious side dish that blows the canned stuff out of the water.</p>
<h2>What are Refried Beans?</h2>
<p>Refried beans (known as frijoles refritos in Spanish) consists of black beans or pinto beans that are cooked and then fried with pork lard, olive oil, or vegetable oil, and then smashed until you get the perfect consistency. You can find a wide variety of refried beans and they almost certainly offer them as an option at your favorite Mexican restaurant. Next time, can make them at home using this easy to follow recipe.</p>

<p>My favorite way to make them is with a little bit of chorizo and onions, which gives it a lot of extra flavor that will have you coming back for more.</p>
<p>This delicious refried beans recipe is a perfect side dish for your next Mexican food night. They go great with <a href="https://www.mylatinatable.com/authentic-mexican-rice-recipe/" data-wpel-link="internal">mexican rice</a>, tortillas, tostadas, <a href="https://www.mylatinatable.com/best-huevos-rancheros/" data-wpel-link="internal">huevos rancheros</a>, and more!</p>
<h2>How do you make Mexican Refried Beans?</h2>
<p>To make this recipe, you will start with the following ingredients:</p>
<ul>
<li>1 cup of black or pinto beans (previously cooked, with a little bit of its own bean broth). While I don&rsquo;t recommend canned refried beans, you can use the canned version of whole beans as part of this recipe.</li>
<li>1/4 onion cut into slices</li>
<li>1 large clove of garlic, cut in half.</li>
<li>2 tablespoons of pork lard or oil</li>
<li>100 grams of chorizo (optional)</li>
<li>Salt to taste</li>
</ul>
<p>The cooking process if very simple. First, you will heat up the oil or lard in a large frying pan over medium heat. You can also use a <a href="https://amzn.to/3HaDoYn" data-wpel-link="external" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">large cast iron skillet</a> for even more flavor. If you are going to make the version with chorizo, fry it until well cooked and then set aside.</p>
<p>Next, in the same frying pan, saute the onion together with the garlic until the onion is translucen and you can start to smell the garlic. Then remove them from the frying pan and set aside.</p>
<p>Finally, you will add the beans to the pan and after about a minute, you will want to mash them. For this step you can use a <a href="https://amzn.to/3j9psps" data-wpel-link="external" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">potato masher</a> or something similar. Now you will want to add the chorizo, onions and garlic back to the pan with the beans and add salt to taste.</p>
<p>Once everything is combined, let the beans cook for about 10 minutes, moving them constantly with a wooden spoon so that they don&rsquo;t burn. Once they have your desired consistency (the best refried beans are creamy refried beans) you will remove them from the heat and serve as a dish with tortilla chips, queso fresco, or tortillas.</p>

<p>Today, however, I want to share this tasty white chili recipe that uses boneless skinless chicken breasts, cream cheese, chicken stock (or chicken broth), great northern beans and more. It is creamy, has just the right amount of spice, and is definitely a favorite recipe around here.</p>
<p>We probably make this once a week and all of my kids (and my husband) love it. Sometimes we finish it all in one day, but when we don&rsquo;t, it is even better the next day!</p>
<h2>How to Make this Easy White Chicken Chili</h2>
<p>One reason that I love making this recipe is because it is so easy.</p>
<p>You start by blending the tomatillos, onions, and garlic together and then adding it to a <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong><a href="https://amzn.to/3g4LSmr" data-wpel-link="external" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">large pot</a> </strong></span>with the rest of the ingredients. Then, you let it boil for about 20-25 minutes and it is ready! I love adding the diced poblano peppers to give it a little kick, but it isn&rsquo;t so spicy that your kids won&rsquo;t enjoy it. If you think poblanos are too spicy though, you can always replace them with mild green chiles.</p>

<p>I personally use the great northern, beans, but you can replace those with a can of pinto beans, white kidney beans, cannellini beans, or another type of white beans. For the chicken, I boil a couple of chicken breasts and shred them up, but you can also use rotisserie chicken or any other leftover chicken if you have it on hand.</p>
<p>Some white chili recipes use sour cream, but this one does not. Instead, it gets its creamy flavors from the cream cheese that I add. If you like a thicker chili, you can add some corn starch to thicken it.</p>
<h2>What are some toppings to serve with this recipe?</h2>
<p>One thing that we love about chili (white chili or regular chili) at our house is adding our favorite toppings. For example, this goes great with tortilla chips, sour cream, cheddar cheese, and even lime wedges. Of course, this all depends on your personal preference, so if there is anything else you like to add feel free! Sometimes I will add fresh jalapenos too to give it even more spice.</p>
